ABOUT THE SHOW
A clever retelling of Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew," this Cole Porter classic boasts romance, comedy, a scintillating score, and a hilarious look at the behind-the-scenes hijinks of a musical. In this musical-within-a-musical, an ex-husband and wife are cast in "The Taming of the Shrew," where, despite their constant bickering, it becomes clear that they are still in love. This dazzling Broadway show features musical numbers like "So In Love," "Wunderbar," "Tom, Dick or Harry," "Too Darn Hot," "Brush Up Your Shakespeare," and "I Hate Men." Kiss Me, Kate is the first musical ever to be awarded the Tony Award for Best Musical!

AVAILABLE ROLES

FRED GRAHAM/PETRUCHIO - The leading man, mid 30s - late 40s. Writer, producer, director, actor and superman. His ego is as large as his resume is long. Must have a physically imposing presence, excellent facility with Shakespeare's text, and be extremely handsome, charismatic, and funny. Classic Baritone. Vocal range: Bb - G

LILLI VANESSI/KATHARINE - The leading lady, 30s - early 40s. Returning to the stage after a not-so-successful Hollywood turn. A regal diva with a fierce temper and rapier-like wit, but a vulnerability underneath it all. Must have the beauty, poise, and elegance of a 1940s Hollywood movie star. Glorious soprano who also has a rich mezzo/belt. Vocal Range: A - B

BILL CALHOUN/LUCENTIO - Broadway song and dance man, 20s - 30s. His compulsive gambling is always getting him into trouble with Lois Lane, who he loves but can't trust around other men. Must be a first-rate entertainer with irresistible charm. Excellent actor, singer, and dancer. Bari-tenor. Vocal range: G - F

LOIS LANE/BIANCA - A nightclub hoofer with Broadway dreams, 20s. Sexy, charismatic, and dumb like a fox, she makes up for her lack of book smarts with an enthusiastic employment of feminine wiles. Excellent actor, singer, and dancer with a knockout Broadway belt/mix. Vocal Range: G - F

HATTIE - 30s - 40s. Lilli's dresser. A true theatre professional, she has seen it all. Full of charisma.  Part dresser, part psychologist, she remains unflappable amidst the drama of backstage life. Has an ongoing flirtation with Paul. Soloist. Vocal range: A - F

PAUL - Male, 30s - 40s. Fred's dresser. Cool under pressure. Has an ongoing flirtation with Hattie. Featured vocalist/dancer with Jazz style in "Too Darn Hot". Vocal Range: C - F#

FIRST MAN and SECOND MAN (GANGSTERS) - Character men, 30s - 60s. Two tough gangsters who look completely out of place in this world of bright lights and poetic beauty, but after six years in the prison library, they have developed a unique way with words and a great appreciation for Shakespeare and the theatre. Must have a great sense of classic vaudevillian comedy. Good movers. Soloists.

GENERAL HARRISON HOWELL - 40s - 50s. A highly distinguished General of the US Army with strong political ties to the White House. A man of rigid discipline determined to uphold military order and patriarchal family values, he clearly does not fit in with the bohemian nature of Broadway or even Baltimore.
