Beginning Acting-Gail Cronauer

Taught by Gail Cronauer -

This is a terrific class for students new to acting, returning to acting after an absence, or who have experience (on stage or screen) but are seeking to solidify or expand their technique. The first 3 classes are introduction and preparation, the last 3 are performance. Each class begins with a warm-up: awareness, breathing, movement, sound, etc. Although the focus is on self-discovery and expression, group support and trust are encouraged through interaction and improvisation. The first performance piece is The Private Place, created from the actor's own life experience. It introduces vocabulary (stage right and left, upstage and downstage, the fourth wall, etc.), process (objectives, obstacles, actions, given circumstances, moment before, sense memory, etc.), and technique (making an entrance or exit, opening up to the audience, etc.). The second performance is a brief monologue which applies the above exercises and principles to the speaking of text and addresses audition preparation. The third performance is a Personal Monologue created by the actor to stimulate the imagination, explore individual resources and expand artistic choices. At the end of the class, personal evaluations are given and suggestions are made as to an appropriate next course of study for those who wish to continue.

This class, usually meets on Saturdays for 2 hours each week for 5 weeks.  Check site calendar for current schedule.

Cost: $160
